I’m Isabel, and I started this blog when I was 14 years old. I’m 15 now :). I tend to think about a lot of things- I love it when I have the time to simply lay on my bed and listen to songs, daydreaming and sorting things out mentally. But the downside is that I’m an overthinker, and take things way out of proportion. At times like these, when things just get way to complicated, I always remember to calm down my hyperactive mind and just remember the important things- the things I love.

My greatest love for food, cooking, and baking had slowly climaxed throughout the years, though I don’t really remember when it started. All I know is that I tend to read more cookbooks than regular books, and that I yearn to bake something everyday, just for the fun of it (Of course, eating some of that delicious batter is a bonus).  I find something as normal as baking cookies eventful and exciting, enough to have me looking forward to it all day. I guess it came from my Filipino background- we Filipinos love to eat, and I just happened to love the process of making food, too. I have a knack for it, I’ll admit.

Writing is something that has always come very natural to me. I remember about writing about roses and mice when I was younger, young enough to start writing up a (grammatically wrong!) world of beautiful meadows and sprawling wildflowers. Blogging has become  yet another outlet for my endless flow of thoughts and ideas. It’s a heck of a lot better than writing essays, that’s for sure. Being able to express what’s on my mind through a combination of just the right words and phrases, without having to worry about any thesis or rebuttal paragraph, deeply excites me.

I love the feeling when I lose myself in what I’m doing…it’s sort of like the “runner’s high”- that after 20 minutes  jogging, of just continuously putting one foot in front of the other, do you start to get a flood of endorphins that make you feel crazy good and energized. Writing is just like that. There are times when I get lingering trains of thought that easily flow out of my hand and onto the paper. Other times, I have cursed writer’s block. And on some days, I don’t even feel like writing at all, which is completely fine.

Now, as for the title…I chose “Tis the Food” as the title for my blog simply because of the reason that it sounds like a declaration. A declaration is usually exclaimed with great emotion and with the purpose of announcing something to the world. I could very well imagine George Washington sailing across the Delaware River, one foot majestically resting upon the boat’s bow, saying a very similar phrase starting with “tis” (because let’s face it, anything starting with tis or twas is just really fun to say). It’s sort of as if I’m declaring my love of food and its creation to the world.

  2. I just wanted to tell you that I positively love your blog! I came across your Blackstrap Molasses Chews on either foodgawker or tastespotting (I can’t remember which), and they drew me in.

    Your photograph is beautiful, too. What kind of camera do you use?

      Thanks so much!! And by the way, you saw it on foodgawker 😉 And for the camera, I just use our Nikon D40 camera with a 18-55 mm Nikorr lens. But really, if you have a good enough camera, the only way to get a good picture is with good lighting!
